![]() she was planning a slow suicide by alcohol, perhaps even a faster one by other means. While it's just a guess, I think before Pam meets you. Pam desperately wants an escape, but she feels she's beyond hope. But on an unconscious level, Pam hates the way she is, and turned to drink in order to escape her bitterness and self-loathing. The experience left her bitter and mistrustful, and since her only experience with parenting included her own abusive family and the jerk, naturally it's the way she treats Penny as well. Her hope for salvation wasn't just unfulfilled, it was stomped on and wasted. She was likely a very diligent bus driver who treated the kids like they were her own, and the sudden loss of her job was the final blow to her self-esteem. Her having a dirty home is her anger against herself, feeling as if she deserves a filthy home due to her own bad judgement.įorced to fend for herself and her newborn baby, Pam got a job as a bus driver, both as a way to support the both of them and to be close to the only human beings she considered to be halfway decent. She was likely a diligent housekeeper for the jerk in her desperate attempt to please him, and cleaning house was likely her way of trying to appease her abusive parents, so it's not surprising that she turned a complete 180 degrees on housekeeping as it reminds her of just how bad her parents were, and how off her judgement about the jerk was. My guess would be the latter one, as we can see by the 4 heart event of Penny when Pam gets so angry about people cleaning up the trailer. She met a man who was likely an abusive jerk himself, fell in love for all the wrong reasons, and either got pregnant by him before he dumped her, or she married him and lived in an abusive relationship with him, got pregnant with Penny, and then was left by the jerk. She was likely physically abused, probably by her mother, and like Penny she was looking for someone to save her. If what we see of her is any indication, Pam herself grew up in an abusive home. So in order to figure out why Pam turned out the way she did, we're going to need to do some educated guessing. It's a little hard to get a feel for Pam's character outside of "abusive alcoholic", since we really don't get much information about Pam at all. In order to understand Penny's character, however, we need to look at Pam. ![]() Penny is stuck in a cycle of abuse, and she needs someone to help her break out of it. Certainly, Penny is in a bad situation and is in desperate need to be rescued, and this is a major attraction for many players who want to be the Knight In Shining Armor. Her mother is Pam, an abusive alcoholic who lives together with Penny in a cramped trailer. ![]() On the surface, a shy, unassuming woman, very conservative in appearance and demeanor, very fond of kids, and a fondness for poppies. Bear in mind, this is my opinion and can certainly be open to debate, and I'm not a professional head shrink or anything. So I'm thinking to do a series on each of the bachelors/bachelorettes in Stardew Valley, and really get into what drives each one. I did a post on another thread that examined the character of Haley from my point of view, and it's inspired me to go through each of the characters and really get deep into their motivations and outlook on life.
